How to Choose a Fragrance
Most owners on r/fragrance and r/FemFragLab give the same advice: smell before you buy a full bottle, wear it on skin for a full day, and only then decide. Here is the process, with what our data adds at each step.
1. Start with a family
A family describes the main character of a scent. Our 205 fragrances fall into 17 families; the largest are gourmand (39), amber & spicy (27), fresh & aquatic (19). Families explained →
2. Test on skin, not paper
Owners regularly describe a fragrance changing on skin over hours, and some report the same fragrance lasting very differently on them than on a friend. Samples and decants let you wear it for a full day before committing.
3. Check longevity and projection
Each review counts owners who say it lasts or fades, and projects or sits close. Across all fragrances, owners wrote 224 positive and 165 negative longevity comments. Longevity explained →
4. Match the season and occasion
See what owners wear in summer, winter, to the office or on a date.
5. Buy from a seller you can trust
We only link Amazon listings sold by Amazon.com itself or by the brand’s own Amazon store, because fragrance on Amazon carries a real counterfeit and grey-market risk. If no such listing exists, we show the fragrance without a buy link. More on avoiding fakes →
