How to Avoid Fake Perfume on Amazon
Fragrance is one of the categories where counterfeit and grey-market products show up on marketplaces. On Amazon, a listing page can have many sellers; the one in the buy box ("Sold by") is the one you buy from.
Our rule
We only link Amazon listings sold by Amazon.com itself or by the brand’s own Amazon store, because fragrance on Amazon carries a real counterfeit and grey-market risk. If no such listing exists, we show the fragrance without a buy link.
What we found
We checked Amazon listings for 144 of the fragrances we track. Only 44 had a listing whose buy box was sold by Amazon.com (44) or by the brand's own Amazon store (0). Across our checks we rejected 426 candidate listings because they were sold by third-party sellers, were testers, samples or sets, or named a different version.
How to check a listing yourself
- Look at "Ships from" and "Sold by" next to the price. "Ships from Amazon" alone does not mean Amazon is the seller.
- Be wary of prices far below other retailers, "tester" or "unboxed" in the title, and listings whose title names a different concentration or flanker.
- The seller can change between visits, so check again at checkout.
