What Reddit owners say
5/5 ProjectionSummer“I have Tam Dao (I guess EDT, but not 100% sure!) and find it a bit beast mode sometimes! I don't wear it in the summer though, so this autumn/winter I'll give it another spin and see how it wears.”
5/5“I'm a director in corporate finance and my primary work fragrances are: Prada Infusions d'Iris Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir Merit Retrospect Chanel No 5 L'eau Vilhelm Room Service Outside of work I wear my stronger and/or more whimsical scents like Room 1015 Love-O-Matic, Guerlain Peche Mirage, Goldfield and Banks Ingenious Ginger. Or my comfort scents that I don't want connected to work like Diptyque Tam Dao EDT, Villa Erbatium Hotel Cotton, and Chanel Jersey.”
5/5“1. Diptyque Eau Duelle EDT & EDP 2. Diptyque Bois corse 3. Diptyque Lunamaris 4. Diptyque Tam Dao EDP 5. Diptyque Benjoin Boheme 6. Penhaligons Opus 1870 7. Penhaligons The Ruthless Countess Dorothea (discontinued) 8. Penhaligons Highgrove Bouquet 9. Guerlain L'Huerre Bleue 10. Guerlain Cuir Intense This list will change seasonally or if I add something amazing to my collection”
4/5 Fresh & clean“I have Tam Dao edp and L'ombre dans Leau edt. Tam Dao is very unisex and you'll like it if you enjoy woody/smoky fragrances. L'ombre dans Leau is more like a clean, green rose fragrance. I gave away Leau Papier because the rice note did get to me. It's a nice, creamy musk scent nevertheless. You can look into Fleur de Peau if you want a musk that leans more floral (iris). I feel Diptyque does greens and florals very well if its a scent profile you are into.”
5/5“Me too! I find August and February to be big transition months for me in terms of fragrance preferences. I have decants of Dear Polly, Wu long Cha and Tam Dao in the mail. For me they feel perfect for August moving into September”

2/5 SweetnessFresh & clean“Just sprayed it again, two sprays, left arm. The first thing I get is a cloying sweetness. It's not vanilla, I guess, but it's like a burnt sugar. There's something fresh beneath it but it all smells so synthetic that I can't make it out. (I realize they're all synthetic, I just don't understand what the intended accord is.) I can't hang, I have to scrub it again. I think I thought, ah yes, creamy cedar like Tam Dao, but it's actually some department store teen nightmare. It smells like ambiguous gummy candy.”
5/5“Aesop - Marrakech Intense I have found it, the best one in the discovery set. A spicy sandalwood scent, a bit resemble Tam Dao EDP by Diptyque, but heavier on spicy side which is the reason I prefer this to Tam Dao. But would I buy a full bottle? Probably not. https://preview.redd.it/hrgy2hgjy25h1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62b88b9bd49539cfee15921786d07d0fcc98bd01”
5/5 UniqueHeadaches“One of my favorite houses. I own a FB of Eau Duelle and honestly need to wear it more. So unique. Iconic. I just got my hands on Lilyphea and Fleur De Peau and man do I need a second job because WHAT!?! Absolutely perfect. Stunning. Incredible. I have a decant of Tam Dao EDP and it's too much. I think I sampled the EDT and loved it: that said, I was nauseous from a GLP-1 when I tried it and I think my brain thinks feeling bad with the smell😭”
5/5“I have sampled Fleur de Peau EDP, Tam Dao EDT and EDP, Philosykos EDP, and Eau Rihla. They each have an elegant simplicity with such amazing, natural scents.”
5/5“I have Eau Duelle and Tam Dao. They were my first big perfume purchases ever and I still love both.”
5/5“The best western sandalwood perfumes that I've tried are Tam Dao and Santal Majuscule. I think Kilian's Sacred Wood might also be worth checking out. It has the note of Mysore sandalwood. However, for a real sandalwood experience there is no substitute to sandalwood oil - Ruh Sandal. You could layer it with other perfumes of you want to but for me I love to enjoy it on it's own”
5/5“I came here to say Tam Dao EDT! I have not tried the EDP actually but I'm in love with the EDT. Very much gives pure pencil shavings goodness to me.”
5/5“First-I relate to your Diptyque love. I own & love my tam Dao, Eau Duelle edp and edt and my Orpheon edt. Second-it's not weird but even if it is who cares you like what you like so just be ok with it👏🏻”
4/5 Fresh & clean“Yes, you should! 😁 on the internet for of course it says smells like fig tree, but i have never seen one or smelt one before to know, but to me the woody scent and the green scent smells fresh and clean. Orpheon i tried before but it didnt work out for me, it smells like wet dog to me. Tam Dao too masculine for me but it is creamy sandalwood.”
Not rated (no clear sentiment) FallNight out“Ooo we have similar tastes! My most recent full bottle buy was Heathens/Cowboys and I think it's going to be my go to for autumn. I also really liked Lola but it def gave me late night party girl vibes which is very not me haha You might like Le Labo Thé Noire and Arquiste Indigo Smoke. Idk if you've tried MMR Autumn Vibes but that would also fit in nicely. If you like a creamy vanilla/iris/sandalwood, then Matiere Premiere Santal Austral. I feel like Diptyque Tam Dao would also be up your alley but I have yet to try it myself (it's next on my sample list)”
Not rated (no clear sentiment) Fall“I'm getting Amber K and Tam Dao for autumn this year and I'm so excited for it. Normally I use Book+, Orpheon, Fleur de Peau, You Doux as my cooler weather scents then move towards more gourmand scents as it gets cold. This year, it's all about the amber and woods.”
Not rated (no clear sentiment)“Tam Dao! Always looking forward to using it, but for now it's only a sample so I have to ration it. Hopefully I can reward myself with a full bottle soon.”
Not rated (no clear sentiment)“I have a travel spray of both Orphéon and Tam Dao EDP that came in a set. I really wouldn't go for diptyque for sweeetness in general. But they both have strong woody facets Tam Dao is a very soothing spa scent, Orphéon gives you projection and powder.”
Not rated (no clear sentiment)“Check these out! I tried not to go tooooo niche as I'm not sure how easy they are to get there. - Diptyque Tam Dao EDP - dry, earthy sandalwood and cedar, refined and polished - Chanel Sycamore EDP - vetiver, juniper, tobacco, sandalwood - Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles - pine resin, woods, a touch of smoky incense”
Not rated (no clear sentiment)“In August I finished: Ex Nihilo Santal Calling 50ml bottle. I repurchased a 100ml. Diptyque Tam Dao edp 75ml bottle. I repurchased another 75ml bottle.”
Not rated (no clear sentiment) LongevityValue“True. I have been on a hunt for a Tam Dao clone by one of the middle eastern houses, and my hunt continues. I have the smelled original Tam Dao, the price wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for the poor performance.”
Not rated (no clear sentiment) Fall“En Passant, Cuir Beluga, Pomegranate Noir, Ylang in Gold, Sycomore, Shalimar EDT/L'Essence, Tam Dao, Tobacco Honey, Patchouli Leaves, Gabrielle L'essence, Karma, Bois D'Amande, and Bois Dore are all lined up in my fall wooden cigar box . I use that to organize my collections.”
